Learn all about the business of being an actor in the DMV! If you're new to acting, new to the area, or just want to brush up on the latest protocol, this workshop will be a primer on what you need to know and do to move your acting career along. We'll cover the essentials, including basic marketing materials, monologues, how to find casting resources, etc. Get the scoop from a stage director on what works and doesn't work in auditions and ask an on-camera coach all your questions about how to get started working in film and TV.

Originally from London, STEVIE ZIMMERMAN has lived in the US since 1993, and in the DC area for the past 6 years. Her production of Doubt was presented by Quotidian Theatre Company this season. Other local directing credits include By Jeeves and The Pitmen Painters at 1st Stage, and Rabbit Hole and Time Stands Still for Peters Alley Theatre Productions. At the Wintergreen Performing Arts Festival in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Stevie directed Art and the English language premiere of Our Lady of the Clouds. She brought the latter to the Capital Fringe Festival, where she had previously directed Alice – an evening with Alice Roosevelt Longworth. Stevie works regularly with the Playhouse on Park in West Hartford, CT, where credits include Collected Stories, Love Letters, Driving Miss Daisy and, W;t. She was an Associate Professor of Drama from 1999 – 2010 at the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music and Theatre. Stevie holds an MA in Directing from The University of Leeds, England and a BA from Oxford University.
BRENNA McDONOUGH is a professional actor with 25 years experience in feature films, commercials, and corporate videos in the New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. markets. Her commercial clients have included Duncan Hines, ATT, the IRS, McCormick Spices, Morgan Stanley, Prudential, American Express and Gorton's Fish. Her feature film credits include, "Guarding Tess”,” Enemy of the State”,” Head of State” and she has appeared on HBO’s "Homicide, Life on the Streets" and "The Wire" as well as several independent films.
SARAH HOLT has been teaching and performing improv in the area since 2001. She regularly conducts improv workouts and other workshops at the Actors' Center, performs improv as a member of The Retrocessionists, and runs her own improv training business www.mixedminds.biz. As an actor, Sarah's been on the stages of the Keegan, Folger, and Nextstop Theatres, as well as the last two Source Festivals.
